Saudi Air Defence Intercept Houthi Drones

Saudi led coalition in a statement issued on 11 June has claimed that Saudi Arabia’s air defence forces intercepted two drones launched by Yemen’s Al Houthis that were aimed to target the city of Khamis Mushait.

The drones targeted Khamis Mushait in the kingdom’s south on Monday and caused no damage or casualties, the Saudi-led coalition fighting in Yemen said in a brief statement released by the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

It was earlier claimed by the Al Houthis that they had targeted the King Khalid airbase near Khamis Mushait. The drone attacks have recently seen an increase with the tensions rising between Iran and United States.

The latest incident of shooting down of the drones follow the downing of a bomb-laden drone by the Saudi Air Force in May 2019.

No further details have been provided by the Saudis about the latest incident.

This follows the shooting down of a U.S. drone by the Houthis just four days ago; and one on 23 May 2019.
